Pürescence - Activated Charcoal Peel-Off Mask | Formula

Activated Charcoal

Known as the “black diamond”, Charcoal has been prized for its purifying properties since the Ming Dynasty in 1486. Modern medicine uses Activated Charcoal for its excellent absorption abilities. Produced from common charcoal, the activation develops many internal spaces or "pores" that can trap liquids and chemicals. Due to the natural properties of the ingredients in Purescence, it is important to thoroughly shake the bottle before each use.

When applied to your skin, activated charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out dirt, debris and impurities. It frees your pores from blackheads, sebum and oils that could clog them. Not only does it deeply cleanse your skin and purify your complexion, it also balances your natural oils and prevents premature aging. Then, gently exfoliated, your skin will glow.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an essential part of skin health both as a small molecular weight antioxidant and as a critical factor for collagen synthesis. Vitamin C contributes to photoprotection, decreases photodamage, and is needed for adequate wound healing. Topical application of vitamin C appears to be an effective route for delivering ascorbic acid to the skin. Studies suggest that vitamin C is most effective in protecting against damage induced by UV light and also has utility in the treatment of photodamage and/or skin wrinkling.

Phenoxyethanol can be found naturally in green tea and is known as a natural preservative. Even though effective and safe preservatives are vital, they are often described in a negative way, and can be wrongly perceived as bad or dangerous to your health. Be aware that, when a cosmetic product contains water—almost all-natural cosmetics do- preservatives are essential to prevent bacteria and fungi from developing.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel frequently assesses the safety of phenoxyethanol, and continually concludes that Phenoxyethanol is very safe at low levels. Tested on the skin and eyes, Phenoxyethanol was proven to be non-irritating and non-sensitizing at levels of 2.2% or lower while being effective as a preservative at only 1% concentration. Even better, phenoxyethanol doesn’t react with other ingredients, air, or light, which makes it an especially effective natural preservative. The SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety) has released a 90-page report on Phenoxyethanol, including scientific tests and additional literature. They concluded that Phenoxyethanol is safe to use in products for children, adults and babies, at a 1% concentration or lower.

Yet, customers continue to question this natural preservative. You’ll find it being mistakenly linked to everything from developmental and reproductive conditions to more severe illnesses. Fundamentally, these assumptions are poorly interpreted science. The studies that have found significant negative health impacts only occur in full-strength or high-dose exposures of Phenoxyethanol—usually through ingestion. When used in cosmetics, Phenoxyethanol levels are always kept within healthy levels. (More info on https://blog.honest.com/what-is-phenoxyethanol/)

Polyvinyl Alcohol

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a polymer of ethylene, a natural plant gaseous hormone that causes the fruit to ripen. PVA is wildely used to strengthen textile yarns and make paper more grease and oil resistant. It also makes children’s play slime and contact lens lubricant (yes, it’s safe enough to go in your eyes!). PVA is strong, colorless, odorless, biodegradable, and non-toxic!

That’s why it comes in your cosmetics’ formulation! This texture enhancer can thicken the oil portion of your cosmetics (lipstick, moisturizers, etc.), bind agents (to give that fluid texture you like so much), and form a film on your skin. We included PVA in Püressence formulation, because it makes the removal of your dried peel-off mask easy and painless.

Aloe Vera

The ancient Egyptians called this African cactus the “plant of immortality” and used it as a skin treatment. Since then, studies have shown that aloe gel may be effective in treating psoriasis, seborrhea, dandruff, and minor burns and skin abrasions. Its anti- inflammatory and cooling properties make Aloe Vera gel the perfect remedy for sunburned skin. Thanks to its antioxidants and minerals-rich composition, it can help speed healing, soften the skin without clogging pores, and fight aging. Its antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties protect your skin from bacteria and other pathogens, stimulate the growth of new cells, and reduce inflammation and redness. As an astringent, Aloe Vera reduces pore size, which helps keep out excess sebum, dirt, and microbes.

This flavorful evergreen is from the mint family, and thus full of antioxidants and nutrients—like iron, calcium, and phytonutrients—that can help protect your skin cells from damage often caused by the sun and free radicals. Thus, rosemary can help your skin fight premature aging, eliminate puffiness due to age and fatigue, and also correct age spots and discolorations, giving you a more uniform complexion.
